HOPE TO ADOPT

Hey There,
Our names are David and Megan Benjamin and we’re hoping to add to our family through adoption! 🙂
We live in a small town in West Central, Minnesota with our two kids and our dog, Hank. We are actively looking to match with an expecting birth mom considering an adoption plan or a younger child in the foster care system who is needing a forever home. Because of the ages of our current kids, we do feel like we would be best suited to adopt a child 3 years old or younger at this point, but we would be so excited to welcome a boy or a girl (or young siblings)! We are open to any race or ethnicity. We are also open to mild-moderate special needs. If you’re an expectant birth mom or know someone who is, we would be honored to be considered. ❤️

Our Home
We live in a small town in West Central, Minnesota and are currently loving small town living. Some of our favorite things to do as a family are: play in the yard, walk or bike to the park for a picnic, work in the garden (the kids love to help with planting and harvest), and explore the community around us! Our town, though smaller, has a sweet diversity and quaint “hustle and bustle” that make it a cozy and entertaining place to live. We love running into people we know at the stores and the genuine conversations. Our town has a lot of fun events and festivals. The county fair is a tradition, along with the Christmas parade! We are grateful to own a comfortable and convenient house with a good sized yard (including a playground with a sandbox!) on a quiet, safe street that is just minutes away from the schools, parks, stores, library, hospital, and college.
Our Family
Our Family
There are many fun activities and traditions we enjoy doing as a family. In the summer, we take our pop-up camper to new campgrounds or state parks. We also enjoy going to the lake and playing on the beach with friends or going on a bike ride around the neighborhood/town. At night, or on a rainy or blizzardy day, we grab pj's, blankets, and popcorn and watch a family movie on the couch or on the blow-up mattress. The kids also love building blanket forts! In the winter, we enjoy going sledding or building a snowman until it is time to come inside for hot chocolate.
Extended Family
David and I both grew up in tight-knit families and had multiple siblings. We are so happy that our children can have the love and support of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and many 1st and 2nd cousins! We visit extended family often and get together for major holidays and, many times, birthday celebrations. Our kids love seeing and playing with their cousins, both older and younger. We also enjoy taking trips with our extended family, whether it's camping, road-tripping, or all piling into a house together for the weekend.

How We Met
David and I met in Junior High through our church youth group. My brother was his best friend and his sister was mine. We hung out with the same friend group throughout high school. When I was a senior in high school, about to graduate and go off to college, David finally got up the courage and asked me out to dinner. After dating long distance while I was at college, we got engaged right before my senior year and we got married right after graduation. We then moved to a wonderful Minnesota small town to begin small-town living. We moved to a small, but somewhat bigger small town in 2021, which is where we are currently living and raising our two children.
Meet David
David is the full-time worship pastor at one of the churches in our town. He gets to spend his days planning services and preparing volunteers for church gatherings that happen every Sunday and other programs throughout the week. The kids and I love that his work day is flexible and we get to see him every day for lunch! Some days we enjoy having lunch in his office and the kids get to blow off some energy in the church gym, especially in the winter!

David is very musically talented, playing guitar, and piano, and singing with the worship team on Sundays. Our daughter is so excited to start learning and playing with Daddy. With this, our home is often filled with music, whether it’s a new album David's listening to on Spotify or him teaching our kids a new silly song about brushing their teeth, making lunch, or cleaning up.
Aside from his work with the church, David loves working around the house and in the yard, playing with the kids and dog, and having friends over for food, games, or a bonfire. We have also been renovating our pop-up camper together. David also enjoys videography, flying his drone, video games, playing baseball, watching hockey, and watching movies as a couple or family.
David is a sweet, gentle, loving, goofy dad, whom the kids and I adore.

Meet Megan
Megan is a licensed teacher but is currently choosing to stay home with our two kids. While she loves teaching, she is treasuring her time with our kids and is excited to homeschool them, at least during their early years. This gives them the best of both worlds - a mom with the training and equipping of an educator and a teacher with the care and affection of a mother.

Megan also does so much to keep our whole household organized, on-schedule, and healthy! She loves spending time working around the house together, camping, and going on family outings to explore a new park or visit family in the Twin Cities or Fargo/Mooreheard area. She also loves playing board games and watching a good TV series with a snack and warm blanket on the couch.
Megan volunteers at church, helping care for and teach early elementary-aged kids in the midweek program. She's also eager to get back to playing piano during church gatherings on Sunday (I'm pretty excited about this too!).
Megan is a beautifully gentle, caring, patient, and fun-loving mom who means the world to the kids and me.

Meet Hank!
We both have always grown up with pets in our house, especially dogs. Growing up, Megan had multiple dogs, guinea pigs, hamsters, and fish. David has had multiple dogs, cats, fish, and frogs. We both really enjoy having the companionship of animals and enjoy the humor of their individual mannerisms.

Hank loves any attention he can get. He loves to cuddle and be as close as possible to you on the couch. He would sleep right up next to you in bed if he was allowed! The kids love Hank and enjoy feeding him and letting him outside when he needs to go. They also love giving him baths...Hank does not like it. Hank does not like swimming and is not the brightest or most athletic dog. But he is one of a kind and the best we could have ever asked for, especially with young kids who just want to love on him!

We currently have a dog, named Hank. He was originally from the Humane Society and is a mix of a Golden Retriever and a Corgi. So, a short-legged Golden! We got him shortly after getting married when he was 1 year old. He is the sweetest, most forgiving, non-aggressive, family dog we could ask for.

Why We Want to Adopt
Adoption was something we talked about as a couple before we were even engaged. We both felt the desire to adopt, it was simply a matter of when and how. Our story is different from many, as we do have two biological kiddos. While two C-sections took their toll on Megan's body, her doctors still said that she could still have another baby. So, while health concerns were a factor in our decision to pursue adoption now, it was not the only (or even the primary) reason.
We both still feel strongly that we want to continue adding to our family and know that we have the love and space for more kids in our home. We believe God has confirmed in both of our hearts that now is the right time for us to be pursuing this step in growing our family and we're eagerly (but patiently) waiting to see where (and more importantly, to whom) this journey might lead.
Dear Birthmother or Family,
Thank you for reading this letter and for considering us as an adoptive family. We can't imagine what a hard decision this is for you, as you consider your and your child's future. As we have gone through this preparation and application process to become approved as an adoptive family, we are continually praying for you and your child, even though we don't yet know who you are.
We love parenting our children and Megan loves getting to stay at home and teach them as they grow. We are both so excited at the possibility of adding a beautiful girl or sweet boy to our family. Our daughter is already over the moon to have a sister or another crazy, little brother. We have already talked and considered where everyone will sit in the van and how the nursery might look. Our kids love the carts at the grocery store that look like little cars, and have pointed out that there is enough room for 4 kids in the cart! We so often imagine what life might look like with another little one running around!
We promise that your child will grow up in a safe place and he/she will be SO incredibly loved. They will grow up surrounded by family, friends, and community. We would love to develop a relationship with you and maintain a connection with you so they can grow up knowing and loving their birth family. However, we also want to respect whatever amount of openness you wish to maintain.
Thank you again for your time and for considering us as an adoptive family for your child.
Blessings to you,
David & Megan
CHLSS Pregnancy Services
We are working with CHLSS (Children's Home Society & Lutheran Social Services) of Minnesota. One reason we wanted to work with CHLSS is because of the amazing way they are able to care for birth moms and families. If you are a birth mom considering making an adoption plan for your child, please look into CHLSS's pregnancy services!
